RUMBA for Debian

RUMBA packaged very often into Debian packages but is not available in the main debian distribution due to dependence on python2.2 and old version of sip. So you can easily have recent rumba installed by adding
deb http://itanix.rutgers.edu/rumba unstable perspect deb-src http://itanix.rutgers.edu/rumba unstable perspect
and invoking
apt-get update; apt-get install rumba-base rumba-python
to get functional parts installed. You might want also rumba-dev rumba-dbg if you are going to develop applications using librumba.

If you prefer to use a bit outdated but working for sure version, please use testing keyword instead of unstable

In case if you're interested in sources of rumba sources,

apt-get source librumba

rumba-python depends on python v2.2, sip v3.5, so to use rumba-python you would need to install specified versions of python and sip-related libraries. Debian packages for them available from our website. If you want to use ipython for python2.2 you would want to install package ipython2.2 All that can be accomplished by the next line:

apt-get install sip=3.5-3 python2.2-sip-qt3c102=3.5-3 ipython2.2 python2.2-sip-dev=3.5-3
To avoid future automatic upgrades of specified packages you can pin them to these specific version by adjusting /etc/apt/preferences file:
Pin: version 3.5-3 Pin-Priority: 1001 Package: python2.2-sip-qt3c102 Pin: version 3.5-3 Pin-Priority: 1001 Package: python2.2-sip-dev Pin: version 3.5-3 Pin-Priority: 1001

Other Platforms

Please download source archive from http://itanix.rutgers.edu/debmirror/rumba/dists/unstable/perspect/source/science/, extract, ./configure and make it, or follow a bit more elaborate but outdated "Installing RUMBA software"

Also you might give a try to "aliened" to rpm deb files which can be found at http://itanix.rutgers.edu/rumba/rpms/
